We want each student who comes to Wesleyan to get three things out of their education: discovering what they love to do; getting better at it; learning to share it with others. â

President An Empowering Approach to EducationWesleyan stands apart from other institutions of higher education by empowering you to take ownership of your academic journey. Courses emphasize active engagement and the freedom to experiment, allowing you to explore, create, and shape your educational experience. As you refine and evolve your academic path, our intensely committed faculty and staff guide, mentor, and challenge you every step of the way.
Learning Through ActionWhatever you choose to study at Wesleyan, you won’t stand on the sidelines, reading the outcomes of someone else’s work or relying on the pages of a textbook to tell you what you need to know. You will engage in passionate discourse and debate, challenge your assumptions, and work through purposeful, hands-on collaboration in the classroom, in the lab, and beyond the border of campus.
Expression Through the ArtsThe arts are a constant drumbeat at Wesleyan. We offer hundreds of opportunities to get involved including dozens of performing and visual arts courses open to students of any major, in disciplines like sculpture, printmaking, and digital design, as well as interdisciplinary department collaborations; opportunities to work with artists in residence; plus, state-of-the-art creator spaces and studios.
Research with ImpactWesleyan’s unique blend of undergraduate focus and high research expectations has earned it the top ranking for grant-supported research among liberal arts colleges. Every department, college, and academic center integrates opportunities to do meaningful interdisciplinary research alongside expert scholar-teachers who want you to work with them—not for them.
Engagement is Woven InOn campus and off, Wesleyans are catalysts of positive change and impact. In their hands, theory becomes practice, ideas become innovations, and hope becomes change. This is a place that nurtures students’ strong social conscience, awareness, business acumen and entrepreneurial thinking both inside and outside the classroom through volunteerism, sustainability practices, service-learning programs, and our various community engagement centers.
Together, We Make WesleyanOur community is strengthened through difference: varied voices, different backgrounds, diverse experiences. Wesleyan provides resources, events, and dedicated staff to help our community come together and remove barriers that have traditionally separated people.
Discover how Wesleyan’s unique approach to education fosters deep engagement and collaboration, preparing you to make a lasting impact on the world around us.
The point of our trip was to gather information that we would not have been able to by just doing research from a desk. We wanted to get on the ground to talk to people who were directly experiencing and witnessing various human rights abuses.
A student who is interested in being an artist, but also wants to learn about engineering, the sciences, or the social sciences, can do so. It is about building a conversation across disciplines.

I was drawn to this community of people who are just as passionate about their field of public service as I am. To be the most effective advocate that you can be, it is really important that you have people around you that are going to support you.
At Wesleyan, Iâve been able to work in an environment where I can do the highest level of research as well as teachingâWesleyan is unusual in that it allows for research at this level even though it is not a huge institution.

Because we want a safe space for our students, we innately want a safe space for everyone in Middletown. I think itâs really important for us to be in solidarity with the people who we share such a close space with.

Art education supports mental balance and channelizes oneâs thoughts. It exposes us to diverse cultures and creates curiosity to understand other traditions.
