Submission request to W3C

Sun Microsystems, a W3C Member, hereby submits to the Consortium the following specification, comprising the following document attached hereto:

1. Web Application Description Language (WADL)

which is referred to as "the Submission". We request the Submission be known as the WADL Submission.

This specification describes the Web Application Description Language (WADL). An increasing number of Web-based enterprises (Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Flickr to name but a few) are developing HTTP-based applications that provide programatic access to their internal data. Typically these applications are described using textual documentation that is sometimes supplemented with more formal specifications such as XML schema for XML-based data formats. WADL is designed to provide a machine process-able description of such HTTP-based Web applications.

Sun Microsystems

Sun Microsystems hereby grants to the W3C a perpetual, nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right and license under any Sun Microsystems copyrights on this contribution, to copy, publish and distribute the contribution under the W3C document licenses.

Additionally, should the Submission be used as a contribution towards a W3C Activity, Sun Microsystems grants a right and license of the same scope to any derivative works prepared by the W3C and based on, or incorporating all or part of, the contribution. Sun Microsystems further agrees that any derivative works of this contribution prepared by the W3C shall be solely owned by the W3C.

The Submission request or Submission does not refer to any trade and service marks (registered or not) required to implement the language. There are several examples that may refer to trade and service marks; however, these examples are informative only.

The organization I represent on the W3C Advisory Committee agrees to offer licenses according to the W3C Royalty-Free licensing requirements described in section 5 of the 5 February 2004 W3C Patent Policy for any portion of the Submission that is subsequently incorporated in a W3C Recommendation.

We request that the Submission be contributed to any future W3C activity involved in the development of a Web description language.

We expect to provide assistance as needed to the Consortium to help with any future work on Web description languages.
