UFC boss refers to Ireland as 'the UK' but claims it was a prank on McGregor

‘Calm down’ says Dana White after social media backlash.

IRISH MMA FANS took to social media this morning to vent their frustrations at UFC president Dana White.

It came after White appeared on UFC Tonight and referred to Ireland as ‘the UK’, which also didn’t go down well with Conor McGregor, who was sitting alongside him.

They were joined on the show by UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo to promote UFC 189, which takes place in Las Vegas on 11 July.

“All of the UK will be watching,” said White, while pointing to McGregor. The Dubliner then interjected: “Ireland will be watching.”

White, who has previously referred to himself as Irish-American, responded: “Ireland… Ireland… I thought that was the same thing, apparently not.”

McGregor corrected White by telling him that “it most certainly is not”, but that didn’t stop fans from making their feelings known to the UFC president via Twitter.

However, White maintained that he made the statement deliberately in order to wind up McGregor.
