Red Hat® Device Edge provides operational consistency across workloads and devices, no matter where they are deployed.
What is Red Hat Device Edge?Devices at the far edge need a different approach. Edge devices such as assembly line tools, IoT gateways, points of sale, and industrial controllers have to operate with limited computing resources, power, cooling, and connectivity. They can also be hard to access, or in settings with little or no on-site technical expertise.
Red Hat Device Edge is a flexible platform that consistently supports different workloads across small, resource-constrained devices at the farthest edge.
Red Hat named a market leader in the GigaOm Radar for Kubernetes for Edge Computing Red Hat Enterprise LinuxGenerate edge-optimized OS images to handle a variety of use cases and workloads with Red Hat’s secure and stable operating system. Leverage management services, intelligent device updates, and zero-touch provisioning for visibility and control over field-deployed edge devices.
MicroShiftMicroShift is a lightweight Kubernetes container orchestration solution built from the edge capabilities of Red Hat OpenShift®. MicroShift uses a consistent Kubernetes API to extend operational consistency for hybrid cloud deployments, all the way to the edge
Red Hat Ansible Automation PlatformWith tools for both day 1 device deployments and ongoing platform and workload operations, Red Hat Ansible® Automation Platform helps you quickly scale device and application life cycle management.
Standard edition only
Use case based deploymentDeploy and manage virtual or containerized workloads on resource-constrained edge devices, orchestrated with or without Kubernetes, on the same edge-optimized operating system, with operations consistency from core to cloud to edge.
Lightweight KubernetesUse container orchestration through MicroShift, an open source project built with the edge capabilities of Red Hat OpenShift, optimized for resource constrained devices in remote or disconnected areas.
Edge-optimized OS capabilitiesAutomated device onboarding, customizable image generation, over-the-air updates, and intelligent rollbacks provided by Red Hat Enterprise Linux minimize the need for on-site expertise.
Consistent Kubernetes APIDeploy and manage virtual or containerized workloads on resource-constrained edge devices, orchestrated with or without Kubernetes, on the same edge-optimized operating system, with operations consistency from core to cloud to edge.
Lifecycle managementIntegrations with Red Hat Satellite and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform make it possible to manage thousands of distributed nodes.
GitOps for consistencyUse Git code repositories to deploy a consistent platform image across potentially tens of thousands devices.
Deploy only what you needThe flexibility to meet the needs of different use cases on devices with limited hardware resources, at various locations, running multiple types of workloads.
Use one platform for your workload journeyStart with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, then add Kubernetes, or deploy both. Red Hat Device Edge provides the flexibility to meet evolving use cases.
Ensure operational consistencyUse the same tools and processes across your edge and hybrid cloud deployments so that your teams can focus on driving innovation as the architecture scales.
Automation at scaleAutomate your device connectivity requirements, patches, bug fixes, updates, and more, all through a single user interface.
