About 10 AMRepresentative Gabrielle Giffords arrives in the La Toscana Village parking lot, parks her S.U.V., and tweets, “My 1st Congress on Your Corner starts now.”
10:11 AMLaw enforcement officials and witnesses gave the following account: a man wearing a sweatshirt and sunglasses barges past people waiting to talk to Ms. Giffords. He walks up behind her, shoots her in the head, and then continues shooting.
Among the 20 people shot, six are killed. The man starts to reload, but the cartridge jams and two bystanders wrestle the gunman to the ground, holding him until the police arrive.

Jan. 8, 2011A gunman shoots Ms. Giffords and 19 other people. Six people die. The police raid Mr. Loughner’s home and say they find notes from him saying, “I planned ahead,” “My assassination,” and “Giffords.”
