USS Midnight was assigned to the Gulf Blockading Squadron 2 November 1861, operating primarily along the southwestern coast of Texas
Reassigned to the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron, 16 October 1862
3 February 1864 captured British schooner Defy off Doboy Light, GA.
Midnight's last tour of duty was with the East Gulf Blockading Squadron early in the fall of 1864
The ship's most successful expedition was at St. Andrews Bay, from 1 to 4 February 1865, where a landing party destroyed beyond repair several large salt plants and dumping tons salt into the sea

Sold at public auction in Boston to C. H. Miller, 1 November 1865
