Participated in the taking of Fernandina, FL., 4 March 1862
Potomska in company with USS Mohican and USS Pocahontas she took possession of St. Simons and Jekyl Islands, 9 March 1862 and landed at Brunswick, GA.
Involved in an expeditions to St. Catherines Sound, GA., 27 April 1862, and Darien, GA., 9 May, 1862
Decommissioned in August for repairs at Philadelphia
Recommissioned in September
Set up a blockade at Sapelo Sound in October
