Built in January 1813 by the British at Amherstburg Royal Naval Dockyard, Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada
Launched, July 1813
Commissioned HMS Detroit in August 1813
Captured by the Americans during the Battle of Lake Erie, 10 September 1813
Detroit was commissioned into the United States Navy, however, she was so damaged that the sloop took no further part in the war
Detroit was so badly damaged that she was taken into Put-in-Bay, OH. to prevent her sinking
She was sunk for preservation at Misery Bay off Presque Isle
She was sold in 1825, refloated and converted for commercial service in 1833
Final Disposition In 1841, Detroit was reduced to a hulk at Buffalo, New York where she was purchased with the intent of sending her over Niagara Falls
The plan went awry and ex-Detroit ran aground on a shoal before the falls and broke up Specifications:
