Welcome Aboard pamphlet - circa 1988 Wolfgang Hechler 146k On 12 November 1989, while returning from an Arabian Gulf deployment, USS Kinkaid (DD 965) collided with the Singaporean M/V Kota Petani in the Malacca Strait. One crewman was killed and several others injured (number varies depending on the sources). Subsequent fire and flooding caused further damage. Kinkaid proceeded to Singapore for temporary repairs, then to Subic Bay for more permanent work, and was finally able to return to San Diego to be dry-docked and fully repaired; $15 million were required for repairs. - 47k Kinkaid undergoing repairs in Resourceful AFDM-5 at the Ship Repair Facility US Naval Base Subic Bay.
