New Engagement Experiments/WikiRun - MediaWiki

Race through Wikipedia, jumping from link to link to reach your goal!

WikiRun is a fast, fun browser-based game that turns Wikipedia into a maze of knowledge. Your mission? Start on one article and reach a target page by clicking your way through internal links only—all in as few steps (and as little time) as possible.

New races are curated daily from May 21 - July 4, 2025, offering a fresh path to explore and encouraging you to dive deeper into Wikipedia’s wide and fascinating world of topics.

Building off of the long tradition of Wikipedia games and inspired by the classic WikiRacing game, WikiRun brings a new spin: it’s quick, accessible, and purpose-driven—helping you learn while you play, no account required.

If you would like to explore more experiments from the Wikimedia Foundation, check out our new experiment hub: Wiki_WIP

  1. Open WikiRun in your browser (mobile-friendly too!).
  2. Each day, you’ll get a starting article and a target article.
  3. Click through only the links within the article to navigate from start to finish.
  4. Reach the target page using as few clicks (and as little time) as possible!
  5. After finishing, see your personal stats, explore the articles you passed through, and come back tomorrow for a new challenge.

If you’d like to make things a little easier, turn on ‘hints’ in Settings to know when the end link is on your currently open page.

New games are only available for a short period of time! Play WikiRace during the experiment period from May 21-July 4, 2025. After July 4, 2025 the game will be in demo mode until Wikimania Paris in 2026, when it is re-released to celebrate Wikipedia’s 25th birthday.

WikiRun is part of the New Engagement Experiments initiative from the Wikimedia Foundation, designed to test lightweight, fun ways to deepen engagement with Wikipedia. By transforming reading into a game, we aim to:
