While the Dreamcast version was farther along in development, Dinosaur still looked quite good, and had a few playable areas that look quite familiar for those who have seen the movie. The gameplay consisted of the combined use of a monkey, a pteranodon, and a four-legged creature (we don't know its exact name), each of which play a part in your forward progress through various physical puzzles and bypassing traps and giant chasms. That really was about it. However, for a good look at the game, we have screenshots for you to peruse.
Previous Information
Set to be based on the upcoming Dreamcast version of the game, which is vastly different from the Sandbox-developed PlayStation version, Disney's Dinosaur for PlayStation 2 is an adventure game that should take gamers on an interactive tour ride that's filled with various cinematic sequences straight from the Disney film.
Just like the movie, the game's story beings at the end of the Mesozoic era where dinosaurs roam the earth and gigantic winged creatures soar over miles of raging seas. When a meteor collides with Earth, destroying the island it hit with fire, the lives of Aladar, the Iguanodon, and his lemur family are changed forever. Their once peaceful island is now filled with ferocious Velociraptors and Carnotaurs that stalk the family. In a world where the future appears bleak, players must join Aladar, Zini, and Flia as they confront the new unleashed forces of nature while fighting an onslaught of unruly dinosaurs in order to protect their friends and lead them to the safety of the Nesting Grounds.
Despite the fact that the PlayStation version of the game has turned out to be less than stellar and the movie ended up being a complete stinker of a flick, there actually appears to be some hope for the PS2 incarnation of this title. The game will have the same Lost Vikings-style gameplay, which has players using different characters throughout the game, but both the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 versions of the title appear to have a greater amount of action elements than their PlayStation counterpart.
The game features around 11 exciting levels that will have players taking on the roles of a variety of creatures including Aladar, the Iguanodon, Zini, the Lemur, and Flia, the Pterandon. Using these characters, they'll have the chance to use their physical skills and strengths to combat hostile dinosaurs that are encountered in the game's various locales.
We'll have more information, screenshots, movies, and hands-on impressions of the PlayStation 2 version of the game as soon as we get our hands on a preview version of the game.
