Life After Attitude - IGN

It's no secret that Acclaim's official WWF license is on its last legs. The company's upcoming release of WWF Attitude for Nintendo 64 and PlayStation represents the end of its partnership with the World Wrestling Federation. But it hardly marks the end of Acclaim's videogame foray into the popular entertainment that is professional wrestling.

In a conference call yesterday afternoon, Acclaim's CEO Greg Fischbach slyly avoided direct questions regarding the company's official wrestling plans, but he did confirm a new wrestling franchise is already in the works.

"We will launch a new wrestling series in our next fiscal year," said Fischbach. "That is one of the ways that we will address the loss of the [WWF] license."

Considering the fact that THQ will be gobbling up Acclaim's current WWF license in November, and in turn the WCW license goes to EA, Acclaim's options are far from endless. It's possible that the company will turn to the far less popular ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling), which is known for its over-the-top fighting style, for a license.

IGN64 will have more as it breaks.
