Tuition and Financial Aid at Choate Rosemary Hall

Understanding that a Choate Rosemary Hall education is a significant investment in a student's future, Choate is committed to building a community of talented, passionate, and driven students from a wide range of backgrounds independent of their financial circumstances.

By offering a robust financial aid program, Choate is able to enroll the best possible students regardless of a family's resources. We meet 100% of demonstrated financial need, and we encourage any family who may need assistance to apply for financial aid.

Choate’s financial aid budget for the 2024-2025 school year was $15.7 million, with awards to families ranging from $1,500 to full tuition. 

For the 2024-2025 school year, 34% of students at Choate received need-based financial aid; the average award offset 80% of tuition.

• Information regarding Choate’s financial aid program, along with specific instructions for applying for aid, will be forwarded to all email addresses on file.
• On your Gateway Candidate Profile, please check that you intend to apply for financial aid.

Choate uses the Clarity Application to determine a fair and equitable grant for every family.

Choate meets 100% of a family’s demonstrated financial need. In determining a financial aid award, the Financial Aid Committee takes into account not only tuition charges and related fees, but normally anticipated costs such as books, supplies, laundry, and travel. The committee also considers extenuating circumstances that may affect the family’s contribution. Students with exceptionally high levels of demonstrated need receive additional financial assistance with the cost of books, travel, supplies, and other needs. 

Families filing U.S. tax returns:

• If self-employed, submit proper business tax return information.
• Families who have Schedule E income from a partnership and/or S-Corporation are asked to submit 1065 and/or 1120-S paperwork along with corresponding K-1 information.

Families who do not file U.S. tax returns:

In completing your Clarity Application, please be prepared to upload the previous year’s official income/asset verification forms and additional documents, including:

• Income tax returns
• Wage statements
• Official documentation from an employer.

This plan is for families who would like to make one payment for all yearly tuition and fees on or before June 1. Families utilizing this option will receive a 1% discount on net tuition and fees less the non-refundable deposit.

This plan requires families to pay 50% of net tuition and fees by July 15 and the remaining balance of net tuition and fees by November 15. 

• Enrollment begins in April. The nine-month payment plan allows you to spread your payments over nine months and runs from July to March.  
• An automatic deduction occurs on the 1^st or 15^th of each month.
• Enrollment by June 15 is required. 
• The payment plan is not a loan, so there are no credit checks or interest charges.
• Your payments are auto-debited from your bank account monthly.

Students may be eligible for assistance with the following additional costs: 

• Books and Academic Supplies - Families should budget $1,000 for books, supplies and incidental charges annually.
   
• Health Insurance - Choate requires that all students carry health insurance.
   
• Cell Phone - Choate requires that all students possess a cellular phone with a U.S. data plan. 
   
• Travel to and from Campus - Families should budget for transportation costs, including when school is closed during major school breaks. 
   
• Music Lessons - Choate offers music lessons, which varies in cost depending on frequency and length of participation. 

All Choate students, regardless of whether they receive financial aid, are eligible to apply for support from the Beyond the Classroom Fund. The fund's purpose is to support a student’s full participation in the Choate experience.

To ease the financial burden of participation in distinct, valuable opportunities that are associated with, and enhance, the student's academic, athletic and extracurricular involvements, a student may apply to this fund to cover non-tuition associated costs.

At the discretion of the Dean of Students, the Fund may also be used to provide financial support to a student facing emergency circumstances.
