Recasting Quake in the MCU Would Be a Mistake

Ever since The Multiverse Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe started, many characters from past shows have appeared and officially been made canon. Two standouts of this, so far, have been the return of Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. But even now, there's been growing hope that more characters could return on a larger scale. One of the best examples of this has been the possibility of Quake finally becoming canon in the Secret Invasion television series. But should that fantasy become a reality, it should include Chloe Bennet's return to the role rather than a recast.

Chloe Bennet's Quake has been a mainstay since the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiere episode. At first, her Inhuman origins weren't even known, and her true identity was only rumored to be that of Daisy Johnson, aka Quake. But when the time came for her to gain her Inhuman abilities and embrace her role as a hero, fans accepted her with open arms as she had become the first official Asian superhero in the MCU. However, with S.H.I.E.L.D. now defunct in the main timeline, Secret Invasion may be the best place for her to make her return.

In the comics, Nick Fury had built a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to combat the Skrull invasion that was dubbed the Secret Warriors. On this team was Quake, and she made a huge impact both literally and figuratively. With a Secret Invasion show coming and including Nick Fury, one of these Secret Warriors has felt like a given. However, the rumor mill has done everything from theorizing that Quake could have a different origin to even having her be recast in a younger role or have the role given to Emilia Clarke. But in the end, all of these choices wouldn't work when Chloe Bennet's Quake is the clear, logical choice.

For starters, the concept of recasting and giving the role to Clarke wouldn't work well for the overall tone that the MCU has set so far. While these characters have been reintroduced to the universe in logical ways, the main focus has been on the white male demographic, as Daredevil and Kingpin were so hotly anticipated to join the MCU and Jarvis and Black Bolt also reappeared. Therefore, bringing Bennet's Quake back would not only be a win for Asian superheroes but would also dodge any potential backlash over recasting a female hero of color for a more famous name.

That said, recasting to a much younger actress would also be a poor way to bring Quake back into the spotlight. For starters, having the actress in the 20-25 age range would be oversaturating an area of the MCU already booming with young superheroes. While the Young Avengers haven't been confirmed, there's no doubt that they could already build a huge roster with the young heroes already appearing. Therefore, keeping Quake at a more mature age would open up more options and even make her a mentor of sorts, should her story go that way. Not to mention Bennet returning to the role could even open the door for more of the supporting cast of the show to return to the MCU and possibly rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D. properly.

Chloe Bennet's Quake has been a character that many Marvel fans, even from the early years, have hitched their wagons to in terms of favorites. Not to mention the actress has spent a considerable amount of time in the role, sculpting someone faithful to her comic roots but not afraid to try something new. While it may be tempting to update or recast the character to avoid confusion with the series she was tied to, it's ultimately a better call to keep Bennet in the role. It would not only be a fun moment for fans but a more organic way to bring in another hero.
