L'avifaune de Dursunlu, Turquie, Pléistocène inférieur: climat, environnement et biogéographie

Abstract

The Lower Pleistocene site of Dursunlu, southern Anatolia, provided a rich, mainly aquatic avifauna, with a majority of extant forms. These indicate an open, steppic environment and a Mediterranean climate, both similar to those of today's Anatolia. This region partially allowed—like all the Mediterranean Basin—northern species (not trans-Saharian migrants) to retire southwards during glaciations, while keeping the Mediterranean species (mainly sedentary).
