Convert your classic Sites to new Sites Classic Sites transition

Starting September 1, 2021, classic Sites will no longer be viewable by anyone. If you want your websites to continue to be viewable, you must convert and publish them to the new Google Sites experience before September 1, 2021.

You can use the Classic Sites Manager to help you transition your websites as follows:

Find out if you can convert your classic Site Convert your Site

A classic site is eligible for auto-migration to new sites if one owner of the classic site meets the following criteria. The owner:

Receive takeout data of Classic Sites

To be eligible to receive takeout of the classic site, the classic site owner must:

Tip: If you convert a classic site, the new site doesn’t include Apps Scripts created from within a classic site.

Convert your site in Classic Sites Manager
  1. On your computer, go to classic Sites.
  2. On the left panel, click Classic Sites Manager
  3. On the right panel, click Conversion tool. Select one or more sites to convert. You can use filters to find the sites you need. 
  4. Click Convert
  5. To keep the same site permissions, check the box next to "Preserve sharing settings."
  6. Click Convert.
  7. To review your Site, click Review draft.
  8. To publish your site, at the top right, click Publish.
  9. Enter a web address for your new site.
  10. Click Publish.
Convert your Site in classic Sites settings
  1. On your computer, go to classic Google Sites.
  2. In the top right corner, click Settings . 
  3. Click Manage site.
  4. In the left menu, click Convert to new Sites.
  5. To keep the same site permissions, check the box next to "Share with the same people."
  6. Click Start.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. To review your site, click Review draft.
  9. To publish your site, at the top right, click Publish.
  10. Enter a web address for your new site.
  11. Click Publish.
Copy your classic Site to new Sites 
  1. On your computer, open new Sites.
  2. At the top, under "Start a new site," select a template.
  3. On the right, click Pages.
  4. Click Add .
  5. Copy and paste content from your classic site to your new site.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 as necessary.
  7. To publish your site, at the top right, click Publish.
  8. Enter a web address for your new site.
  9. Click Publish.

Tip: Add a link on your classic Site to send people to your new Site.
