RCS chats with businesses - Google Messages

With Rich Communication Services (RCS), you can get interactive messages with photos and videos from registered businesses. For example, an airline can send you a message with your boarding pass.

To have an interactive conversation with a business, you need to turn on RCS chats.

If your phone and carrier can use RCS, the option shows in your advanced settings.

Tip: Availability varies, and carrier charges may apply. Contact your carrier for details.

If a business is unavailable for a conversation, it may be because:

• You don’t have Google Messages. From Google Play, download the app.
• If RCS chats isn't turned on, turn on RCS chats.
• The business or service you're trying to interact with isn't supported in the country or region you're in or by your carrier at this time.

When a business registers to use RCS chats, Google or other third-party providers verify the business's identity. If the business is verified:

• It states "verified."
• It has a Verified badge .

When you message with the business, they'll receive a read receipt for each of their messages that you read. Learn more about how to turn off read receipts.

Verified RCS chats between businesses and users aren’t end-to-end encrypted:

• Chats are managed by businesses, messaging solution providers, and carriers.
• Entities that operate RCS business conversations, and, in some cases, carriers, may access message content for delivery and other purposes.
• To protect against spam and abuse, Google only has access to the message content sent by businesses to users. Messages sent by users to businesses can’t be accessed by Google.

To get a business's information, tap the business’s name Information.

To review the business's privacy policy and terms of service:

1. Tap Info & Options Options.
2. Select an option:
   • View Privacy Policy
   • View Terms of Service

To manage unwanted messages and your interaction with an RCS business chat, you can:

• Unsubscribe: Stop receiving non-essential messages from a business.
• Block & report spam:
  • Stop receiving all messages from a business.
  • Report the business for spam, like unsolicited or inappropriate messages.

To unsubscribe, block, or report spam:

• If you don’t want to receive non-essential messages from a business such as promotions, you can unsubscribe.
• When you tap “Unsubscribe,” Google Messages sends a “STOP” message from your phone number to the business.
• It's the business’s responsibility to honor your request. The messages won’t be blocked by Google Messages.
• After you unsubscribe, you should no longer receive non-essential messages from that sender.
• You may still receive essential, requested messages from them after unsubscribing, like one-time passwords or boarding passes requested from that business or confirmation of your unsubscribe request with information to further manage your communication preferences.
• If a business is unable to comply with your unsubscribe request because you’ve elected to stop receiving messages in your account, the business may instead redirect you to account settings to change your message notifications through your account.

To unsubscribe:

1. Open Google Messages .
2. Open the conversation with the business you want to unsubscribe from.
3. In the conversation menu, tap Unsubscribe.
   • The “Unsubscribe” option might also appear at the bottom of the conversation.
4. Select why you want to unsubscribe from that sender.
   • This information is shared only as aggregated statistics with the carrier and the sender.
   • If you select “Spam,” you get the option to report the sender.

5. To unsubscribe from that sender, tap Unsubscribe or Unsubscribe & report.

Tips:

• To completely block any messages from the sender, from the menu, select "Block & report spam.”
• To subscribe again, in the conversation with the business, tap Subscribe.

1. Open Google Messages .
2. Open the conversation with the business you want to subscribe to again.
3. In the conversation menu, tap Subscribe.
   • The “Subscribe” option might also appear at the bottom of the conversation.

If you no longer want to receive messages from a business, you can block and report.

1. Open Google Messages .
2. Open the conversation with the business you want to block.
3. Below the conversation, tap Block & report.
4. Alternatively, tap More Block & report spam.
5. Select an option:
   • Report as spam: To report spam or poor business behavior to Google, tap the checkbox. This will also block the business.
   • Block: Confirm that you want to block the business.

Tips:

• Once you block a business, the conversation you had with them is moved to the "Spam & blocked" folder.
• When you report business messages as spam, the sender’s information and up to the 10 most recent messages sent by the business go to Google and may go to your carrier.
• Google spam detection and prevention may ephemerally process the contents of messages sent by businesses, and use those signals to train AI models to improve spam detection and prevention.
  • Google doesn’t have access to message content sent by users to businesses.
• Google employees and contractors may review spam information to help improve Google's protections against spam and abuse.
• Human reviewers have restricted and audited access to this information for 30 days. Only the spammer’s identifier is retained for the spam review.
