Change your language or use multiple languages

Choose the Google Assistant device you're using:

Phone or tablet

Important: Some features aren't available in all languages, countries, or eligible Android devices.

Change or add a language

The Google Assistant will speak to you in the language you set in your Android settings. You can change or add a language in the Google Assistant settings.

For example, if your phone uses English (US) and you set the Google Assistant language to Spanish (US), you can speak to the Google Assistant in English or Spanish.

You can use up to 3 languages with the Google Assistant on your device: your Android language, plus 2 Assistant languages.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, touch and hold Home or say "Hey Google."
  2. In the bottom right, tap .
  3. In the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial Settings Assistant Languages.
  4. Choose a language.

You can talk to the Google Assistant in either language, but not a mix of both.

Some features aren't available in all languages. To change your language to Marathi, Bangla, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Urdu, Gujarati, or Kannada, change your primary language to your preferred language.

When you add another language, you can speak with the Google Assistant in any selected language and it will respond in the same language.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Home app .
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial Assistant settings Assistant Languages.
  3. Tap your current language.
  4. Pick a new language.

TV

On Android TVs, the Google Assistant is available in English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish, Swedish, and Vietnamese. More languages are coming soon.

On Google TV devices, Google Assistant is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Hindi, Chinese (Traditional), Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish.

On TVs that don't run the Android TV operating system, available languages vary. On LG TVs, the Google Assistant is available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish. On all other TVs, the Google Assistant is only available in English.

Car

Important: In cars with Google Assistant built-in, you can set one primary language. Set your Assistant language to match your car’s system language. Learn more about Google services built into your car.
