Google Play services enables useful tools and helps make your device more secure and reliable. One of the services it provides is for your contacts. Learn more about Google Play services. 

Important: Google Play services is different from the Google Play Store. 

Google Play services for contacts lets you:

• Make your contacts available to other Google apps and services
• Share files with your contacts, even when you’re offline
• Manage your contacts such as:
  • Move your contacts between Google and non-Google accounts
  • Automatically clean up and fix issues with your contacts
  • Access your contacts in other Google apps and services on your device through features like autocomplete suggestions
  • Find contacts in your work or school account
• Backup, restore, and sync across your devices when contacts are saved as Google contacts. Learn how to back up and sync your device contacts.

Important: Some contacts features work only on Android 9 and up. Learn how to check and update your Android version.

Google Contacts automatically backs up and syncs to new devices you sign in to.

To manage this feature:

1. Go to your device's Settings.
2. Search for contacts.
3. Tap Google  Google Contacts sync.

Google Play services for contacts may collect and use some information and permissions to support contacts features on your device.

Google Play services for contacts may use device permissions such as: 

• Contacts may be accessed to back up, restore, and sync your contacts.
• Contacts may be accessed in the background to make them available for Google apps and services on your device. 
• Phone may be accessed in the background to import contacts from the SIM card and verify the phone number associated with your Google Account.
• Files and media may be accessed to select photos for your contacts.

Google Play services for contacts may also collect and store the following data to support contacts-related functionality on your device:

• Contacts data such as contact name, phone number, and additional related information.
• Device data such as Google Account identifier may be used to restore, back up, and sync your contacts to your Google Account.

Any information that Google collects is handled in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
