If an app is not from the Mac App Store

If an app is not from the Mac App Store

If you see a dialog stating “The app is not from the Mac App Store,” the app you tried to open wasn’t downloaded from the Mac App Store.

You can change your settings to allow apps from known developers.

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Privacy & Security in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

Open Privacy & Security settings for me

  2. Go to Security, click the pop-up menu next to “Allow applications from,” then choose App Store & Known Developers.

If you’re still unable to open the app, see Open an app by overriding security settings.
