15 Fastest Ships In The Star Wars Universe, Ranked

It's not exactly Star Wars without the ships that engage in the titular wars and fight in skirmishes, Star Wars boasts many fast ships. Thanks to books like The Ships Of The Galaxy and The Encyclopedia Of Star Wars Encyclopedia Of Starfighters And Other Vehicles, fans have been able to learn how fast these ships can go.

For this list, the ships will be ranked based on their max speed within a planet's atmosphere in terms of kilometers per hour. From freighters to fighters to even personal transports, there are a lot of ships out there and some might be faster (or slower) than some fans expect.

T65 X-Wing (1,050 Kph)

Arguably the most iconic starfighter in the franchise, the T65 was the flagship fighter for the Rebel Alliance. Piloted by Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles, and many others, the X-Wing was built to be a balanced machine.

It may not be the fastest fighter in the galaxy but it is a fast machine, reaching 1,050 kph at max speed, and was equipped with strong armor and cannons to put a hurt on Imperial forces. The X-Wing was a big reason why the rebels were able to defend themselves for so long.

The Millennium Falcon (1,050 Kph)

Contrary to what Han Solo tends to boast, The Millennium Falcon is not the fastest ship in the galaxy. It is impressively fast, especially since it is a Corellian YT freighter which is quite slow. However, thanks to modifications from both Lando Calrissian and Han Solo, the Falcon is the fastest ship of its kind, making it on par with a T65 X-Wing at 1,050 kph.

The freighter class that the Falcon originates is essentially an intergalactic equivalent of a moving van. This is why characters tend to look at it as a "piece of junk" as Luke Skywalker called it at first glance. The Falcon was even faster under Calrissian, reaching 1,200 kph.

The Soulless One (1,100 Kph)

General Grievous' private starfighter, The Soulless One is a modified Feethan Ottraw Scalable Assemblies Belbullab-22 starfighter. The Soulless One reached a top speed of 1,100 which allowed Grevious to keep up with ARC-170s from the Republic.

Its speed combined with a built-in sensor jammer made the Soulless One into a formidable starfighter that allowed Grevious to escape many times throughout The Clone Wars. It also proved to be helpful to Obi-Wan Kenobi after Grevious' defeat; he commandeered the Soulless One to escape the Purge.

T-70 X-Wing (1,100 Kph)

Time had passed since the Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. When it came time for the New Republic to be in charge, they upgraded the classic X-Wing. Pilots such as Poe Dameron got to fly the T-70 X-Wing which went up to 1,100 kph.

It continued the legacy of the X-Wing being the most balanced starfighter. It may not be the fastest fighter in the galaxy but it is a fast machine equipped with strong armor and cannons to put a hurt on the First Order's forces.

Scimitar (1,180 Kph)

Darth Maul had his private ship but it was based on a luxury ship meant for couriers. It was modified to become a stealth fighter meant to infiltrate any system without being spotted. This was shown with it silently arriving on Tatooine for Darth Maul to hunt the Jedi.

Maul's modified courier known as the Scimitar was able to keep up with and outrun most starfighters at 1,180 Kph. After Maul's defeat, the Scimitar became the personal transport for Darth Sidious.

Imperial/First Order TIE Fighters (1,200)

The Empire built the TIE Fighters to be faster and deadlier than Rebel ships. In some ways, the TIE Fighter is the deadliest as it can outrun X-Wing by reaching 1,200 kph; they are also equipped with rapid-fire cannons that deal much damage per second.

However, for every pro, there is a con; TIE Fighters are not nearly as durable as X-Wings. Even though they have faster cannons, the X-Wing still has the better firepower. These same pros and cons would continue with the First Order variants.

TIE Advanced X1 (1,200 Kph)

Though not as fast, Darth Vader's TIE Advanced X1 is the spiritual successor to Anakin Skywalker's Jedi Interceptor. Certain visual similarities show where the design came from while still keeping with the overall design for ships that the Empire was known for.

TIE Advanced was meant to be a fierce fighter as it leads groups of TIEs into battle. It matches their top speed but featured upgrades such as a hyperdrive and a deflector shield combined with a stronger hull.

Imperial/First Order TIE Interceptor (1,250 Kph)

As a medium between the classic TIE Fighter and the TIE Advanced, the TIE Interceptor was the sister-craft of the Advanced meant for the Empire's expendable pilots. It was an upgrade from the TIE Advanced in one way: speed.

The TIE Interceptor in both eras reached a top speed of 1,250 kph which would make them a threat to the Rebel and Resistance pilots. However, the Interceptors did not retain the Advance's shield and hyperdrive which made them easier to mass-produce.

RZ-1 A-Wing (1,300 Kph)

The absolute fastest fighter of the Galactic Civil War was the A-Wing, a Rebel equivalent to the Interceptor designed to be fast, agile, and able to deal damage quickly. It reached a top speed of 1,300 kph which made them difficult to control, even for someone with Jedi reflexes.

Unfortunately, due to the lighter materials that allow the A-Wing to reach such speeds, it is far from the most durable ship in any fleet. As a result, the pilot has to rely on dodging and outmaneuvering their enemy to keep from being shot down.

RZ-2 A-Wing (1,350 Kph)

Like the X-Wings, the A-Wing was also upgraded in the Age Of Resistance. In appearance, it's nearly impossible to tell that the new A-Wings are even a different model. It's on the inside of this machine that counts.

The second model of A-Wing reached 1,350 kph, still keeping the Resistance with the fastest fighter out of the two big factions. RZ-2 A-Wings also featured deflector shields and a hyperdrive, unlike their Age Of Rebellion counterpart, allowing them to be more effective in the war.
