Abstract

The invention comprises 2-amino-pyrimidines of the formula <FORM:0997632/C2/1> wherein Z is an alkyl or alkoxy group, the hydrocarbon portion of which is interrupted by one or more oxygen atoms and/or is closed to form a ring, e.g. a methoxyethoxy, cyclohexyloxy, ethoxyethoxy, or tetrahydrofurfuryloxy group; and their preparation by reacting a 1,1 - dialkoxy - 2 - Z - ethane of the formula Z.CH2.CH(OR)2, wherein R is an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms, or when Z is an alkoxy group, may be the same as Z, with a halogen-containing condensing agent suitable for the Vilsmeier reaction, to replace one of the alkoxy groups by halogen; at the same time or subsequently, reacting with a formamide of the general formula HCO.N.R1R2, wherein R1 and R2 are alkyl radicals or R2 may be phenyl, to effect the Vilsmeier reaction, and reacting the product with a guanidine salt and an alkali-metal hydroxide or an alkali-metal alkanolate in alcohol.
