Fifteen (15) translation fellows comprising 5 primary and senior high school teachers, a published writer, a graduate student in creative writing, and 8 undergraduate students taking up education participated in the inaugural Hablon-Usipon Children's Book Translation Workshop to collaborate in producing free licensed reading materials through the StoryWeaver platform. In May, Bolivia graduated 20 more teachers who joined the group of teachers who use Wikipedia to teach in the classroom. The teachers are part of the Simon Bolivar I Educational Unit and teachers in training at the Simon Bolivar Teacher Training College. The incorporation of this new group of teachers who critically use Wikipedia fills us with pride because the lesson plans they presented incorporate novel and very creative ideas that allow students to critically read the information they receive in the classroom and in their environment. At the end of May, I had the opportunity to participate in the EduWiki 2025 Conference in Bogotá, Colombia with Wikimedians and other professionals from technology and education all around the world who shared projects, resources, and, most importantly, posed questions with the other attendees. Before the conference began, some of the national fellows met and conducted some brainstorming activities. One of them posed the following question: Why use Wikipedia if ChatGPT already exists? Several points emerge from this, which I want to cover here to better understand the future of Wikipedia as a source of consultancy. Read more…

On 16th June, Wikimedinas of Dinajpur organized an educational program at Dinajpur Govt. City College, engaging students in promoting open knowledge. Activities focused on reading Wikipedia in the classroom, Editing Wikipedia and promoting contents according to the syllabus. This event empowered students to edit to free knowledge while developing skills in reading, research and translation. Read more…

In June 2025, Wikimedia Ukraine had the opportunity of presenting the Wikipedia Education Program at “Teachers of the Future,” Ukraine’s largest education event held in Lviv by Osvitoria, a Ukrainian education nonprofit. The festival brought together over 2500 educators, students, and thought leaders, including Ukraine’s Prime Minister and Minister of Education. As an official partner, Wikimedia Ukraine engaged with hundreds of participants through an interactive booth and a practical workshop, sharing how Wikipedia can be a powerful tool for teaching media and information literacy in Ukrainian schools.
