Exactly so. Blessing a module as part of the stdlib is an important mark of trust, and one that is most definitely not stupid to respect. (In case my previous message was ambiguous, I am fully in favour of people trusting python.org in this way, and fully understanding of people NOT trusting other sources, or at least not automatically.)
