"Readability" is community property, and has as much, if not more, to do with common convention as with some absolute metric. The "contributor's discretion" must yield. That doesn't mean the contributor has to do all the work; as several people have pointed out, it makes a lot of sense for experienced reviewers to make such trivial changes themselves before committing, especially for new contributors.
