Yes, it's basically the continuation of their work. Most changes since
then have been relatively minor.

You mean to check behaviour or to check for performance regressions?
IMHO the test suite is long enough to run already and performance tests
should be kept in a separate suite. Whether that suite should be
separate from the main distribution is another question.
