This turned out to be not such a great idea.  Importing _strptime at
the module level even after all datetime initializations does not work
because of another circular dependency: _strptime imports calendar
which imports calendar which imports datetime.  New patch is at
http://bugs.python.org/file17978/issue9206c.diff
