Removing the guessing clearly isn't a bug fix, so there's nothing to do in the 2.x line (as there won't be a 2.8). 3.1 already has the stricter (and in my view correct) behaviour, and I see no reason to introduce the 2.x behaviour into Python 3. So I'd say there's nothing to do. Paul.
