There was a recent test added to test_fileio.py which triggered runtime checks on windows. I fixed this and other related issues in a series of revisions around 70580. Now, I know that this msvc behaviour can be disabled, but it was decided that it was not appropriate to meddle with runtime flags of the whole process for python. It is unfortunate that a dialogue box is put up, even when the process is running without a UI. I wonder if there is a way to fix that without changing the way python is compiled... At least at some point in the past, it didn't check to see if there was an attached window station. But the dialog can be disabled in debug mode by using the _set_error_mode function.
