This implies that there is no possibility that setuptools will be changed to support the new standard. That's patently false. Whether you *want* to change setuptools in such a way is up to you. And it's worth a note in the PEP if this change is made, that it will require a change to setuptools if that package is still to recognise distutils-installed packages. Paul.
