I realise that there are options on any given machine to reduce the interference of known applications. (And I assume that the people who own buildbots are in a position to do what they can in that direction). I was working more towards a situation where they wouldn't have to, where the test suite could confidently be run without having to allow for artefacts of this type. Still trying: some new ideas from Trent elsewhere in this thread which I'll look into tomorrow. TJG
