Silly me, the trunk is already available:

https://code.launchpad.net/~vcs-imports/python/trunk

I could certainly request that other branches be mirrored if there's  
any interest.  Should the community ever decide to make the switch, I  
believe the entire Subversion history could be imported, though we  
may not care about the majority of existing branches.
