You can't have travelled far beyond Alpha Centauri
recently. The major interstellar banking corporations
need *quite* a lot of bits for dealing with the
economy of a medium-sized galaxy. The Decimal module
has been a godsend to them -- they were all making
do with long integers until that came along.

Of course they've had to make some modifications
to handle the number bases used by some of the
more unusual species out there, such as the
13-fingered Quezorpians, but that's just a simple
matter of programming.
