I can't reproduce this, on XPSP2. If I install 2.3.4, then install
2.4b1, not selecting "register extensions", then run the program

print sys.version

it still prints 2.3.4.

If I then invoke the MSI file again, chose "Change Python", install
the extensions, the same program will print 2.4b1. If I then Change
Python again, uninstalling the extensions, nothing will be associated
anymore; this is (somewhat) intentional.

What precisely did you do?

Regards,
Martin
