Binary packages of python 2.3.4 should be compiled using BerkeleyDB 4.1 not 4.2 (as all previous python 2.3s shipped with 4.1). Anyone who compiles it on their own against 4.2 will have to live with this error in the old bsddb compatibility interface. Taking a closer look at this to see if there is a workaround is on my TODO list. -g
