In what sense is that "standard"? In a source distribution,
the standard directory is called "po". In an installed system,
the .mo files are in <prefix>/share/locale/<lang>/LC_MESSAGES.
However, that structure is not appropriate if you don't have
complete locales, but just message catalogs.
