Hm...  That module's functionality is such a small improvement over
raw os.popen, it would never have been admitted into the standard
library these days.

I'd rather see this added as a higher-level API to one of the process
management modules that are floating around, one of which will
eventually land in the library, at which point we can deprecate
commands.py.
