With v3 of the patch, the interpreter survives the full regression test on
both FreeBSD 4.8 (gcc 2.95.3) & FreeBSD 5.1 (gcc 3.2.2).  Just for
completeness, I tested with USE_RECURSION_LIMIT reverted to 10000 on both
systems.

I didn't monitor performance, other than to note that there was no gross
slowdown...
