According to PEP-0004 and PEP-0320, the audioop module is deprecated,
and scheduled for removal in 2.4. I hadn't noticed this before, but
I'd like to ask that it be kept. I've a number of pieces of code using
it - both internal (our unified messaging server makes heavy use of
it) and external (the shtoom python SIP phone uses it).
