No, I don't think you're fine at all. You might just happen to avoid the problem in this particular case, but the basic flaw is still there, waiting to trip up someone else running some other C extension. Have you run any of this on a Sparc? I can see the register window spillage mechanism getting royally screwed by having the stack chopped up.
