Another idea to make Trent even sorrier he asked <wink>:

A number of scripts do transformations on "all Python files", for some
definition of "all", spelled various ways, and perhaps inconsistently about
whether or not they follow symbolic links, and definitely inconsistently
about whether they seek to recreate original permission masks, and in
whether or how they name backups.

"Traverse, maybe modify and replace" is a non-trivial but non-excruciating
blob of code that gets reinvented repeatedly, so pointless variations are
bound to creep in.

'Twould be nice to factor that out into a common, consistent utility.
