I haven't looked at the code. Is that true that this version requires all
import hooks to be triggered by some kind of string in sys.path
which is then recognized by the import hook.?

Finn has already said that but I repeat it, there are cases for Jython for
which this cannot work, involving import hooks that correspond
to runtime only objects.
