Probably on the contrary. When researching a getaddrinfo bug on OS X,
I found that, when given a choice, they took library functions from
the NeXT, rather than taking them from BSD. In case of getaddrinfo,
this was the wrong choice - the BSD version would have worked...

Now, I don't know where NeXT got its curses implementation from, but I
wouldn't be surprised if it was 1.0BSD, or some such :-)
