Don't be so sure about speed. If the archive is big enough and 
the OS bad enough <wink>, it may be faster to uncompress 
than swap. I always compress at 9, and have only seen speed 
ups of 1 or 2% with compression turned off.

BTW, .pyc's compress quite well.
