But it doesn't appear that PEP 244 allows multiple directives per line:

    A directive_statement is a statement of the form

        directive_statement: 'directive' NAME [atom] [';'] NEWLINE

If you decide to allow it, then the semicolon makes sense, but not
otherwise.
