The details of the current scheme stop working at the end of the year
regardless. Would rather change it rationally than in a last-second panic
when the first change is needed after December 31st. If you look at the CVS
history of import.c, you'll find that the format-- and size --of .pyc magic
has already changed several times over the years. There's always "a
reason", and there's another one now. The current scheme was designed when
Guido thought 2002 was two years after Python's most likely death <wink>.
