Look's like I should better forget my proposal to add a new method 
'.supplement()' to dictionaries, which should do the opposite of
the already available method '.update()'.  
I summarize in cronological order:

 Ka-Ping Yee: +1
 Fred Drake: +0
 Greg Stein: -1
 Fredrik Lundh: -1
 Jeremy Hylton: -1
 Barry Warsaw: -0

Are there other opinions which may change the picture? <0.1 wink>
