I'm just trying to explain why mbox files are incompatible with the way most people deal with their mails nowadays. 
The situation looks symmetrical to me.

I fear that maildirs are incompatible with the way I use email.
I really am intrerested in the answers to the questions I asked about slownesses that might -- or might not -- be a problem for use of maildirs. If they are not in fact a problem, I'd like to know that.
