Publish a Data Source on the Web

You can save data sources to share or reuse from your published workbooks on Tableau Server. To do this, you'll need to have the specific permissions to edit the workbook and publish on Tableau Server. For more about publishing permissions, see Who can publish content(Link opens in a new window) in the Tableau Server Help.

If your data source uses a large extract, this publish step might take a few minutes.

  1. On Tableau Server, open a workbook in web authoring.

  2. Click the tab for any worksheet.

  3. From the Data pane, click the drop-down menu for the data source you want to share, and click Save as Published Data Source.

Note: After the data source is published to the web, you will not be able to edit or view the data model.
