The targets metadata api returns useful metadata about each metric, such as the metric type and help text https://prometheus.io/docs/prometheus/latest/querying/api/#querying-target-metadata. Is there any plans to support this API in VM?
Describe alternatives you've considered
Currently the workaround to fetch all metric names exposed by a particular target is via the /api/v1/series route https://prometheus.io/docs/prometheus/latest/querying/api/#finding-series-by-label-matchers. However, there is no way to fetch the metric type and help text as far as I know.
